At last.fm, they use my favorite monitoring tools as well:

* Cacti
* Nagios
* JMX

And what a great instrument:

    We just hosted the Cacti Project Team as “Project in Residence” for the third straight year here at GroundWork Open Source. GroundWork Monitor has Nagios and RRDtool (Cacti’s data source) built right in along with Nmap and dozens of other open source packages, resulting in a fully-featured IT monitoring tool. It adds a point-and-click GUI for Nagios configuration, and saves to standard Nagios config files.

    Cheers, -Peter
